Stuck Inside of Memory with the Memory Blues Again Stuck Inside of Memory with the Memory...

Some things just will not budge from your subconscious. Every time a certain situation is brought up, your mind always loads and plays for you a specific instance from a movie or song or you own real life experience.

A few weeks ago it was brought to my attention that something we'd purchased was being warehoused for us and that the people storing it for us were sick and tired of holding on to our purchase and could we please come and get it. This isn't about how rude they were or how busy and/or lazy we've been in picking up the product, it's about memory and perceptions. We've already paid for it too, just haven't made the time to make the trip into the vast outer realms of metro Atlanta.

What I want to explore is how the moment I heard about their discontent and every subsequent time I've been reminded by someone or thought about it myself the image of Lyle Lovett's character in Robert Altman's Short Cuts dive bombs my mind and I'm immediately thinking about those terrible voice messages he was leaving an unbeknownst to him grieving couple who had just lost their son. In the film—based on Raymond Carver's short stories—Lyle is a baker who is overworked and stressed. Even more so he is particularly fed up with people ordering expensive cakes from him and then not showing up to pay for them. Sounds to me like he should maybe get at least half up front but hey, what do I know. That film is so chock full of information and dialogue that he may even address that very issue in his rant, I honestly don't remember.

I can't shake the feeling that a tense encounter awaits me when I go pick up our shipment and that Lyle Lovett will be the one standing behind the counter giving me the stink eye.
